I Was Going To Die

Updated: Apr 19

I’ve helped a lot of people achieve financial freedom over the last 15-20 years and I love helping people get there, BUT I’ve seen so many of them pursue financial freedom at the expense of everything else.

I watched them make a lot of money, but along with that money, they also got a side of heart disease and a nasty divorce. Now let me ask you:

Is that true freedom?

We have these things called mastermind groups that are designed to help entrepreneurs grow and scale in their businesses.  These groups are amazing and people have REAL breakthroughs that completely change the trajectory of their lives…

A few years ago, right before a mastermind was set to begin, I woke up in the middle of the night from a dream.

It was the most vivid dream I have ever had, and in this dream, I was going to die.

It was like God was giving me a glimpse into my mortality.

In this dream, I couldn't tell my wife. I couldn't tell my kids. I couldn't tell anyone important to me that I wouldn't be around much longer.

I still remember that feeling. Not a good feeling at all…

This was one of those dreams that sticks with you, and I couldn’t stop thinking about it.

So that next morning when I walked into the meeting room, even though I already had the curriculum built out, I decided to go off script.

I told the group about this dream I’d had the night before, because it had really caused me to think about why I’m doing everything that I’m doing.

It caused me to reflect on what’s really important to me.

It caused me to ask, am I spending my life - my time and my energy - on the things that I value most?

What do I value most?

We spent the next several hours going around the room and having everybody envision the rest of their lives. I now call this exercise time compression. Imagine you only had 5 years to live. Would you change how you’re spending your time and energy?

What if you only had 1 year?

A month?

A week?

Let me tell you, there’s no faster way to get to what really matters than to admit that you are mortal.

We don’t have forever. There will be an end to our lives, and the world will go on without us.

So how do we want to impact the world? How do we want to impact the people who are most important to us?

There were a lot of tears shed going around the room that day.

One lady said that her mom was very sick, and she knew that she wasn’t spending enough time with her.

This lady was very successful in business, making several hundred thousand dollars a year. But it wasn’t enough (spoiler alert, it never is). She wanted to get to that next level in her head, that million dollar per year level.

But after this conversation, she resolved herself to the fact that she was going to go home and bless her mom. She was going to buy a convertible Mustang and take her mom on a drive across Route 66 because she knew her mom had talked about that dream of hers since she was a little girl.

It was a beautiful story, and a beautiful scene, all because she took time to reflect on what was really important to her.

Another guy in the group grabbed me during our break. This was a guy who was very financially successful.

He was struggling a bit with work life balance. He just wasn’t around enough. He had been prioritizing his business and his journey to financial freedom over everything else. That’s where he was putting all of his energy, and all of his time.

He told me that right before he left to come on this trip, his young daughter came into his office to ask him to play with her.

He told her “in just a few minutes.”

She asked him several more times, and it was always “just a few more minutes, I’m almost done.”

By the time he finished, she was asleep and he left the next morning to come to the mastermind.

It was that morning, walking out of the meeting that the light bulb went on for him. He realized that true freedom isn’t just financial freedom. It had everything to do with his relationships, and even his health. He didn’t have the energy to spend with his family, because he spent it all at work.

He didn’t have the time to spend with his family because he spent it all at work.

He gave his business everything. And what was left was almost nothing.

The people in this mastermind were successful in their fields, but they had only figured out one piece of the puzzle.

I don’t want you to make these same mistakes.

So, sure, we can help you become financially free, we can help you make a lot of money. We’ve done it plenty of times.

But we want to help you with so much more than that.  We want to help you become truly free.

We want to help you discover your core values, AND then radically improve ALL of them.  I want you to spend your life on what really matters: having the means to do what you love with the people you love.

There is a science to financial freedom, to building a business or growing assets.  There’s science to better physical and mental health, and to improving relationships.

BUT, the thing that most people get wrong is the ART to putting it all together!

That’s our mission here at Freedomology.

If that sounds good to you, join our community and get access to our private Facebook group where we talk about this stuff all the time.

We’ll share our top ideas and show you the steps you need to take to achieve freedom in all areas of your life, and you’ll find other like-minded people who are on the same journey.  So click the link above or sign up below, and we'll see you on the other side.
